For parents and caregivers

New patients: essential information

Planning your child's first visit? Here's what to know about referrals, appointments and care at Kids Dentistry Barrie.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. We accept new patients referred by their family dentist. Children age 3 and younger who are not yet seeing a family dentist can also come to us directly.

What ages do you treat?

We accept new referrals for children from birth through age 11.

Can parents contact you directly, or is a referral required?

If your child is age 3 or younger and is not yet seeing a family dentist, you can contact us directly without a referral. Otherwise, a referral from your family dentist is required.

For questions about arranging a visit, call 705-722-3213.

What support do you offer anxious children or children with additional needs?

We take a specialist pediatric approach to dental care, adapting how we communicate and support your child to their individual needs. Our dentists and staff are trained to help children manage dental anxiety.

When anxiety or a young age makes dental treatment difficult, we also offer sedation and general anesthesia when needed. At the consultation, we will discuss your child's needs and the options for helping them cope with care.

Which payment programs do you participate in, and how does payment work?

We welcome patients with or without dental insurance and participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) and Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) program. We can coordinate benefits when a child has coverage through more than one insurer or program.

For patients without insurance or with private insurance through work, payment is due at the time of service. We can submit your insurance claim electronically on your behalf so your insurer can reimburse you directly.

What accessibility and parking are available?

Our office has plentiful parking and an elevator to the second floor, where we are located. Please contact us before your visit to discuss any specific accessibility needs.

How does a family arrange a first consultation?

Most children are referred by their family dentist for specific care. Once we receive the referral, we will contact you to schedule an examination and consultation. If your child qualifies for a visit without a referral, call us to arrange an appointment.

At this first appointment, we will make a plan for your child's dental needs and discuss whether sedation is needed to help them cope with treatment.

What should families do for urgent care, including outside office hours?

If your child has not yet been referred to our office, contact your family dentist for urgent dental concerns. They can assess the problem and advise on the treatment needed.

If your child has already been seen at our office, contact us directly at 705-722-3213.

Outside office hours, call 705-722-3213 and listen to our voicemail message for instructions on who to contact for emergencies. For difficulty breathing or swallowing, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
